Attitude, Practice, and Factors Affecting Contraceptive Use among Women Attending Postnatal Care in a Tertiary Health Facility in Jos North LGA, Plateau State, Nigeria

The high population growth rate has been associated with the increased level of poverty, morbidity, mortality, and decreased life expectancy. Modern contraception is an important factor in controlling fertility through prevention unintended unwanted pregnancies. Contraception (birth control) prevents pregnancy by interfering normal process ovulation, fertilization, implantation. Contraceptive use still very low Nigeria Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), where levels unmet need for family planning are high. attitude women toward will usually affect practice utilization contraceptives. objective this study to assess attitude, prevalence, factors affecting contraceptive among attending Postnatal care a tertiary health facility Jos North L. G. A Plateau State, Nigeria. There was descriptive cross-sectional done between September October 2019, sample size 250 women. Respondents were determined using multi-stage sampling method. Data collection interviewer-administered, pre-tested, structured questionnaire. data collected, entered, analyzed IBM Statistical package social sciences (SPSS) version 20.0. Most have positive 162 (64.8%) while 88 (35.2%) had negative contraception. Three quarters (75.2%) willing prevalence respondents 35.6% previous contraceptives 71.2%. Fifty (27.9%) used condom (barrier method), 40 (22.9%) withdrawal Majority other spread across OCPs, injectables implants. Major majorly attributed informed choice 60.1%, Partner’s decision (44.1%) mild or no adverse reaction (12.8%). While major preventing lack interest 69.4%, partners’ 14.9% fear side effects 12.5% respondents. showed wide acceptance services as majority them see it beneficial go another method after current pregnancy.
